Ethics are the standards of behavior on which the functioning of every society rely. As a result, ethics are of central concern to anyone seeking professional services. A professional seen to be flaunting ethical principles will quickly be ostracized, particularly as word of mouth is amplified online. This class provides a thorough grounding in the principles and concepts of ethics, how it differs from and complements “morality”, and why ethics matter. The bulk of the class presents the practical application of ethics through an exploration of ethical duties to customers, to the agency, to colleagues and supervisors/employees, and (not least of all) ethical duties to yourself. This is followed by a review of how ethics are applied to a variety of real-world situations, including advertising, listings, closing, dealing with renters, and workplace relations.
