CE Requirements to Renew a UT Mortgage Loan Originator License


In Utah MLO license holders CE requirements can vary:

  • Licensees renewing for the 1st time are required to obtain 15 total hours consisting of:
    • 5 Hours of Post Licensing education 
    • 3 Hours of Federal Law Updates
    • 2 Hours of Ethics, Fraud, Consumer Protection, & Fair Lending
    • 2 Hours of Non-Traditional Mortgage Products
    • 1 Hour of Elective
    • 2 Hours of UT Law
  • After your first renewal, license holders are required to attain 10 total hours of CE annually that must consist of:
    • 3 Hours of Federal Law Updates
    • 2 Hours of Ethics, Fraud, Consumer Protection, & Fair Lending
    • 2 Hours of Non-Traditional Mortgage Products
    • 1 Hour of Elective
    • 2 Hours of UT Law

MLO licensees who did not complete their education before December 31st are required to take Late CE. Licensees must take late CE for each year they have missed.

15 Hour Utah SAFE Comprehensive 2018 MLO Post-License Course

15 Hour Course $ 229.00

This updated 15 hour comprehensive continuing education course for Mortgage Loan Originators for 2018 will cover modules of Federal Law Updates, Ethics, Fraud, Consumer Protection and Fair Lending, and of Nontraditional Mortgage Products, which are required for continued licensure under the SAFE Act. Within those categories, MLOs will study subjects such as a brief history of mortgage lending in America and updated rules affecting MLOs in the field, as well as ethical considerations, mortgage fraud, and updates to certain nontraditional mortgages available to the MLO today.


10 Hour Utah SAFE Comprehensive 2018 MLO CE Course

10 Hour Course $ 125.00

This updated 8 hour comprehensive continuing education course for Mortgage Loan Originators for 2018 will cover modules of Federal Law Updates, Ethics, Fraud, Consumer Protection and Fair Lending, and of Nontraditional Mortgage Products, which are required for continued licensure under the SAFE Act. Within those categories, MLOs will study subjects such as a brief history of mortgage lending in America and updated rules affecting MLOs in the field, as well as ethical considerations, mortgage fraud, and updates to certain nontraditional mortgages available to the MLO today.

This course will expire on 6/30/2019. You must complete the course by this date in order to receive credit.


Late CE 10 Hour UT SAFE Comprehensive 2018 MLO Continuing Education Course (7963)

10 Hour Course $ 125.00

This is the 2018 Late CE course. This is only for licensees who failed to complete the CE required for their 2018 renewal during the 2018 calendar year.

Licensees who hold a Mortgage Loan Originator license are required to obtain continuing education in order to renew that license. In the state of Utah MLO license holders must obtain 10 hours. Those 10 hours must consist of:

  • 3 Hours of Federal Law Updates
  • 2 Hours of Ethics, Fraud, Consumer Protection, & Fair Lending
  • 2 Hours of Non-Traditional Mortgage Products
  • 1 Hour of an Elective Topic
  • 2 Hours of Utah Laws and Rules

This course will expire on 6/30/2019. You must complete the course by this date in order to receive credit.


8 Hour SAFE Core and Elective 2019 MLO CE Utah

8 Hour Course $ 45.00

This 8 hour course of instruction for mortgage loan originators in Utah is designed to provide the mandatory Core education on mortgage lending, reverse mortgages, and the federal regulations governing MLOs. Additionally, it provides 1 hour of elective content. This course will address a variety of topics including:

  • Federal lending laws such as the SAFE Act
  • ECOA, and the TILA-RESPA Rule
  • Ethics, fraud, and non-traditional mortgage loan products
  • Reverse mortgages

2 Hour UT SAFE 2019 State Law Course

2 Hour Course $ 30.00

Taking this course will satisfy the 2-hour state-specific elective requirement for licensed UT mortgage loan originators. This class counts toward the total 10 hours of required annual continuing education. The course will review:

  • Recent changes in legislation
  • Recent disciplinary actions
  • The Utah High Cost Home Loan Act
  • Section 8 of RESPA
