  • 1 Hour Course
  • $39.00

This course on SC-specific education fulfills 1 hour of annual continuing education for licensed MLOs in the state. A total of 8 hours must be completed each year, which includes 3 hours of federal law, 2 hours of non-traditional mortgage lending, 2 hours of ethics (including fraud, consumer protection, and fair lending issues), and 1 hour of SC-DCA-specific education. This is a stand-alone course, and can be taken either on its own or in connection to other courses offered to fulfill your CE requirements.

This course examines the general regulations affecting MLOs including the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (or SAFE Act). We will discuss South Carolina’s Consumer Protection Code, Mortgage Lending Act, and Licensing of Mortgage Brokers Act. This segment covers such topics as recent changes to the Code, the preference form, and consumer complaints.

The next segment of the course will look at regulations affecting elements of the profession of mortgage loan origination. Topics covered include licensing exceptions, prohibited activities, and advertising, and use of a residence as a licensed location.

The remainder of the course looks at regulations governing mortgages and deeds of trust, reverse mortgages, and mortgage lending.

To promote comprehension, students will complete a 5-question quiz and short activity after each module. A 15-question final exam will wrap up the course.
