New Jersey Real Estate License Renewal Dates and Continuing Education Requirements

In the state of New Jersey, real estate licenses must be renewed every two years. The deadline to renew your license is June 30 of every odd-numbered year.

To renew a license, real estate brokers and salespersons must complete the following New Jersey real estate continuing education requirements by April 30 of that year:

  • 12 hours of continuing education, including
  • 2 hours in ethics
  • 4 hours in core subjects (which may include further ethics courses)

The remaining hours may be completed in either core subjects or electives.

  • If you are initially licensed in the first year of the current two-year term, you must complete CE requirements in order to renew.
  • If you are initially licensed in the second year of that term (and would have less than a year to complete your requirements), you do not have to complete CE for that term.

There are no CE requirements for referral agents unless they want to change their type of license.
