This course fulfills the new California continuing education requirement for 2 hours of implicit bias training for most real estate licensees.

The class begins with a discussion of the investigative reports and a federal fair housing data survey that revealed widespread implicit bias in the real estate industry, and California's legislative and regulatory changes intended to improve the situation.

This is followed by a look at why human nature can lead to implicit bias, the historical and social impact of systemic, overt, & implicit bias, and the different types of implicit bias.

The final hour of the class focuses on a variety of actionable steps to recognize and address implicit biases, practical strategies for overriding unconscious bias through self-assessment, conscious thought process, identifying areas of risk, and adopting standardized operating procedures. The class provides a review of the NAR approach to overcoming implicit bias and other ways to overcome implicit bias in decision-making by following ethical principles.

The class finishes with an overview of California’s information-gathering, collaborative approach to implicit bias regulation and enforcement and implicit bias enforcement efforts in LA with regard income source discrimination (Housing Choice Vouchers).
