Staying compliant with mortgage loan originator (MLO) annual renewal education is mandatory in Oklahoma. Our 8-hour course is split into four modules, each focusing on a required topic.

The course starts by reviewing laws and rules that affect mortgage loans and mortgage loan originators nationwide. We break down the components of the SAFE Act, Regulation Z, and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), highlighting 10 common violations identified by the Multi-State Mortgage Committee as mandatory topics for the 2024 core continuing education classes.

Module two explores consumer protection and ethics, important pillars of the mortgage profession. We assess business ethics and the responsibilities of financial professionals in Oklahoma. Then, we talk about consumer protection laws, particularly under the ECOA, emphasizing the importance of fair lending. This module concludes with best practices for handling mortgage fraud and other lending schemes in the United States.

The third module explores non-traditional mortgage options and their associated risks compared to the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage loan. We'll review counseling requirements, adjustable-rate mortgages (ARMs), reverse mortgages, high-cost loans, and information on lending standards. A review of government programs and owner financing concludes the module.

Lastly, the fourth module provides insights on renovation mortgage loans, with a focus on Fannie Mae HomeStyle® and FHA 203(k) renovation loans. Students will gain an understanding of these tools with a direct application to Oklahoma’s housing market.

Each module will end with an assessment and quiz section, allowing you to demonstrate your understanding of the material. You’ll read a short case scenario and answer questions. The course will conclude with a 25-question final exam.
