The full 8 hours of continuing education core requirements residential leasing agents operating in Illinois need to renew their licenses are covered in this course. Required topics are explored in detail and made relevant to leasing agents. First, the all important Real Estate License Act of 2000 is reviewed and recent amendments to it discussed. There are definition and requirement changes over the last two years licensees will need to be aware of.
Next, we’ll outline the duties and responsibilities surrounding recordkeeping, the IDFPR going paperless, sponsorship changes, and advertising guidelines. From there, we’ll highlight business practices to avoid and the extent of IDFPR’s authority over non-real estate matters of character. Agency types allowed in Illinois and the disclosures that go along with those relationships are presented with example forms and scenarios.
Part 2 focuses on contracts and all the particulars of leases, including terms and conditions, how to handle security deposits, and property condition disclosure. Other disclosures discussed include those on environmental hazard disclosures, compensation arrangements, and contemporaneous offers. Tenant and landlord duties, responsibilities, and interactions make up the bulk of part 3, while part 4 deals with anti-discimination laws at the state and federal levels. Finally, the last part is a 1 hour state mandated training in sexual harassment prevention.
Videos, stories, and imagery are utilized throughout the course to enhance comprehension for visual and auditory learning styles. After each lesson, students will be asked a single question about the material. Successful completion of all material will unlock the Certificate needed for license renewal.
